The So-Called Laws of Nature

This project originated in September 2023, during a 7-day artist residency by Zorg Munuera in Bologna, at Atelier Tatanka. The edition collects two paintings by the artist, scaled 1:1, each measuring 150×125 cm, from the series “The So–Called Laws of Nature”, created between 2022 and 2023. The paintings — divided into 18 sections each and reproduced using a four-color risograph (Yellow, Fluorescent Pink, Aqua, Green) — appear in the pages of the book in new configurations, offering different shapes and perspectives on the artist’s original work.

The core of the project is the reworking of the paintings through the risograph printing technique and from the perspective of an editorial project. The process of research, conversion, and transformation that arose from this intent is closely tied to the colors, textures, inks, and specific dynamics of this technique, as well as to its rules and limitations. Starting from this objective, the work developed and layered over the course of a year and a half, initially through printing test phases, then within the framework of editorial design dedicated to the creation and production of the book object. The result is an edition that immerses the reader inside the paintings, which are revealed as different, regenerated images capable of offering a new interpretation of the original works.

«Painting has always been deeply intimate with the landscape; swallowing and digesting it. Its materiality, synthetic substances composed of minerals and other organic matter, bears witness to this intimacy in the act of painting. Painting is digestion, or rather indigestion, as a metaphor for the dynamics of interpreting the relationship between the unknown and the self.»
